- The basic calculator allows you determine the velocity at a throat bushing for a given seal flush flowrate. DS is the shaft diameter, CD is the diametrical clearance between the bushing and shaft, V is the velocity at the throat bushing, and Q is the seal flush flowrate.

- 10 ft/sec--Minimum
- 15 ft/sec ideal
- >20 ft/sec too high
- The throat bushing is centered and creates a uniform annulus around the shaft.
- There is enough differential pressure across the bushing to generate the required flow through the bushing.
